Plan a trip

to Junibacken, the local storybook land in Stockholm. Take a train around the fairytale land or meet Pippy Longstocking in person. Adults will feel like a child again and children will love this make believe land full of characters from storybooks.

Interested in shipwrecks? Stockholm, Sweden has an exhibit where you can visit some of the remains of the warship Vasa, which sank on its maiden voyage. History lovers will enjoy this exhibit as well as those looking to learn a bit about Sweden’s past.

For an incredibly genuine Sweden experience, you simply cannot miss Gamla Stan, or Old Town Sweden. Old town still has cobbled streets and narrow alleys that will transport you right back into 17th century Stockholm. This is the spot you absolutely must see when in Sweden, so bring your camera!

Kungliga Slottet in Sweden is the official residence of the king. All hail as you visit this royal palace located in the heart of Old Town Stockholm. The palace has museums you can visit and you can even watch the changing of the guards!

Your Sweden vacation must include some sampling of the local cuisine, so drop by Isole in Stockholm. Here you can try local favorites and you may just see a celebrity or maybe even a member of the Swedish royal family.

Skansen, a museum and zoo located in Stockholm, Sweden will keep you entertained for hours. It is the world’s largest museum and the only zoo in Stockholm. Plan to be here for awhile so you can see it all!

Another great spot in Old Town Stockholm is the Museum of Medieval History. A trip to this Swedish museum will educate you on medieval techniques and people from the 1500’s.

If you’re lucky enough to visit during June, make sure to attend the Midsummer’s Eve Festival. It’s one of the largest and most popular events in Sweden, so get ready for a night of dancing, drinking and merriment as you experience Sweden firsthand.

Another seasonal attraction is the circus, Princessan in Sweden. This circus is unique and a must-see if you visit during the right times. A travel agent would be able to tell you exactly when the circus comes to town, so plan accordingly.

If you feel like dancing the night away Sweden style, take a trip to the Daily News Café. Here you can try a local beer or two and step out onto one of their dance floors.

There are many exciting and new things to do while you’re in Sweden, so make sure you give yourself enough time to do them all. You will want at the very least, a week in this great country so you can get to know its people, culture and land.

A modern local landmark in Malmo, the HBS Turning Torso tower was constructed in 2005, when it immediately become Scandinavia's tallest building, measuring almost 200 metres / 656 feet. This striking apartment block is sure to make you look twice, since it twists through no less than 90 degrees, and stands in a large reflecting pool, flanked by rather stylish sculptures created by Santiago Calatrava. The Turning Torso dominates the city's skyline and can even be seen from as far away as Copenhagen. Those visiting during the summer months may enjoy a leisurely stroll along the promenade, which edges the waterfront and passes the sea pool.

Malmo Tourist Attractions: Radhuset (City Hall) - Stortorget, Malmo, Sweden, SE
Located next to the County Governor's Residence, near to the Kockska Huset (House of Jörgen Kock) and on the Stortorget (Big Square) itself, Malmo City Hall dates back as far as 1546, although it has been modified a number of times since it was first built, particularly during the 19th century. Known locally as the Radhuset, most people come to the city hall not only to appreciate its fine architecture and related attractions, but also to pay a visit to the popular basement restaurant, the Radhuskällaren.

Malmo Tourist Attractions: Malmo Castle (Malmöhus Slott) - Malmöhusvägen, Malmo, Sweden, SE
Known for its rather intriguing and interesting history, and surrounded by a rather beautiful moat, Malmo Castle is better known to many as Malmöhus Slott. Although very little of the original 15th-century castle actually remains, with much of the grand building rebuilt in 1937 with red brick, the Malmöhus Slott is still extremely impressive and contains a wealth of notable attractions, including the Commandant's House, an aquarium with coral reefs, a number of small museums, the Science and Maritime House and various cafes. The castle is famous for once imprisoning James Hepburn for more than five years, a husband of Mary, Queen of Scots. Close by, the local Fiskehoddorna fish market is worth a quick look.

Malmo Tourist Attractions: People's Park (Folkets Park) - Amiralsgatan 37, Malmo, Sweden, SE
Young children will always enjoy the numerous attractions of the Folkets Park, which is open during the summer months and offers a range of family based activities. This popular amusement park comes complete with fairground rides, playground areas, pony rides, a miniature farmyard with many friendly animals, and even a reptile house, so there is plenty to keep you occupied here. Close to central Malmo, the Folkets Park is also home to a number of eateries and a flea market, where you never know quite what you may find.

Malmo Tourist Attractions: Ribersborg Beach (Ribersborgs Kallbadhus) - Malmo, Sweden, SE
Located within the city's western harbour, Ribersborgs is a long and sandy stretch of beach, some 2 km / 1.5 miles to the west of central Malmo. Ribersborgs beach is entirely man-made and during Sweden's summer months, lives up to its nickname of the 'Swedish Riviera'. The beach itself is backed by local parkland and features a lengthy pier, which stretches into the water. At the end of the pier you will find the Ribersborgs Kallbadhus, an outdoor saltwater pool built for naturists, with a historic wood-fired sauna originating from the late 19th century.

Malmo Tourist Attractions: St. Peter's Church (Sankt Petri Kyrka) - Göran Olsgatan, Malmo, Sweden, SE
Just a short walk from the central railway station, Sankt Petri Kyrka is a rather beautiful church that dates from the 13th-century, although it has been remodelled a number of times over the years, the last time being in the 1890s, although its undoubtable Gothic character still shines through the red bricks and tall spire. It is reputed that the church's tower collapsed during the 15th century, because a woman simply pointed at it, and for that crime, she was actually burned. Attractions are both inside and out, including many original frescoes within the Krämarekapellet chapel, with the impressive facade often prompting tourists to take out their camera and take a snap of this important Swedish landmark.
