Standley Chasm is west of Alice Springs, where the Finke River (tributary) in flood times has gouged a narrow gap through the sandstone. Simpsons Gap was also created by flood waters seeping into the cracks in the rock, and over time causing a collapse resulting in an enormous gap in the mountain range.
