Flinders Ranges and Wilpena Pound

 

Via Port Pirie to the Flinders Ranges National Park and Wilpena Pound. Located in the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park it holds spiritual significance for the local Aboriginal people. Ikara is an Aboriginal word for 'meeting place'. Wilpena is also an Aboriginal word meaning 'cupped hand'. Early settlers called this large ampitheatre the Pound because it was just like an 'enclosure'.
