Meteora, Greece. Byzantine art work from paintings, frescos, and wall paintings in the various monasteries. Some of the art is graphic and shows some quite brutal scenes, presumably depicting the early monks persecution, torture and execution. We suspect that for purely commercial reasons, picture taking is prohibited in all of the monastery Katholicons, so the last few pics are scans from brochures etc that we bought and a few from the Internet. This type of iconic image is common in the Orthodox churches that we visited throughout Greece.
